Hey Joel Osteen! See how it ought to be done.

Some of you may have seen the Joel Osteen clip on themetrocalvinist.blogspot.com . Here John "a man's man" Macarthur shows how it is really done. Note how the soundest guy there (Macarthur) is the one who is not hiding behind clerical garb! (It's a bit long - 4 minutes).

Brilliant! I love how Larry King (not a Christian himself, as far as I'm aware) exposes these flaky types.

"So do you believe Christianity is the true religion?"

"Yes I do"

"So therefore you believe the other religions are not true?"

"No, I don't"

"But you just said your religion is true, didn't you?"

"Yes"

"So that has to mean that the other religions are not true, right?"

"Wrong"

I think King is a sharp guy who is aware of the real issue at the centre of all these debates - epistemology. How can we know anything? How do we relate what we know and experience to the notion of truth? The difference between John MacArthur is that his epistemology begins with the presupposition that Scripture is a revelation of the knowledge of God. That is the highest authority in his epistemology.

The liberal bishop (or Joel Osteen) has rejected Scripture as the highpoint of his epistemology. That sacred place is reserved for his own reasoning.

And what Larry King appears to be so good at is highlighting how anything other than a Bible-centred epistemology is fundamentally ridiculous when you profess to be a Christian.
